President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the nationwide distribution of rice to support Nigerians observing the holy periods of Ramadan and Lent.
The directive will be implemented through the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a political support group aligned with the President.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director-General of the group and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma.
According to the statement, the initiative is designed to strengthen national unity while demonstrating compassion during a period that holds deep spiritual significance for both Muslims and Christians across Nigeria.
Uzodinma explained that the intervention reflects the President’s commitment to solidarity and care for citizens during religious observances that emphasize sacrifice and charity.
“Ramadan and Lent are seasons that remind us of sacrifice, charity, and care for one another,” the statement read.
“Through this distribution, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors will ensure that families across Nigeria feel the spirit of togetherness during this sacred period.”
He added that the rice distribution will be coordinated through the organisation’s nationwide grassroots network to ensure that families in different communities benefit from the intervention.
The programme is expected to reach both Muslim and Christian communities across the country, reinforcing the administration’s message of inclusivity and national unity.
A similar initiative was carried out during the Christmas season last year, when rice was distributed to support Nigerians during the festive period.
The latest directive forms part of broader efforts by the Tinubu administration to provide relief to citizens during important religious and cultural seasons
