Nigeria’s powerlifting gold medalist at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro Ndidi Nwosu died of complications from a lung infection, our correspondent has learnt.
Former head coach of the Nigeria Powerlifting Federation Aare Feyisetan made this known in a telephone chat with our correspondent.
According to Feyisetan, she died on March 1 following an injury she copped at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, where she also won gold.
“It’s a sad development and we are all unhappy. She was a great athlete and did the nation proud at different championships she attended. She will be missed. We pray for God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.”
