Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by Boko Haram have killed multiple passengers travelling to Borno State capital, Maiduguri.

Sources in Maiduguri said the explosives were planted at Maula village, a flashpoint notorious for attacks on civilians and the military.

The actual number of casualties was not immediately known.

The commercial vehicles were moving passengers from Gamboru through the trans-Sahara Highway linking Maiduguri- Dikwa and Gamboru to Cameroon – Chad.

Many passengers were reported killed while those who sustained injuries are currently being managed at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and International Committee of the Red Cross facility in Maiduguri.

A few days ago, ISWAP propaganda news outlet, Amaq, claimed an ambush on troops along Gamboru – Dikwa road.

In February 2019, insurgents attacked the convoy of Kashim Shettima, then governor of Borno state, at Maula village.
