The People’s Captain- Hon, Captain ADEBAYO DOSUNMU was present at the Union’s Quadrennial National Delegates Conference that was held at the New Haven Event & Conference Center at Ikeja GRA on the 26th March, 2021.
The Honorable Captain who was decked in the Union’s colorful attire chosen for this year’s event had earlier in the week leading to the Quadrennial Conference held a strategic meeting with the top echelons of the Union’ Members in charge of running the affairs of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, which has the President-General- Comrade Prince Adewale Adeyanju in attendance at the Union Headquarters in Apapa, Lagos, where he reminded those in attendance that being a Maritime Personnel himself, as a Marine Captain & Later as a Port Captain, he understands the full workings of the industry, and therefore solicited for support on behalf of the teeming youths population in Amuwo-Odofin LGA on whose domain many of the Maritime Support Services were been done including some functional ports, like the NPA phase 2 Port in Kirikiri, Lagos and so many Oil Storage Depots, Cargo Terminals etc that dots the space of Amuwo-Odofin LGA, little wonder the Local Government has often being dubbed “The Maritime Hub” of Lagos State, & indeed Nigeria, he therefore made a case to the Union to see how these teeming youths population in Amuwo-Odofin LGA can be Co-opted into the Maritime Industry by;
(a) Carrying out Various Training & Re-training programs that are available in the sector in order to make these Youths employable in the Maritime Global Work Scheme.
(b) Link the boys & girls alike in Amuwo-Odofin LGA to partake in the various Scholarship Schemes available in this sector by various Oil Servicing Firms, in order to reduce the out of schools population in Amuwo-Odofin LGA and reduce the effects of illiteracy and antisocial vices seen in the community.
(c) The Union should engage various NGOs’ (nongovernmental Organization) dealing on Drugs reduction services to help sanitize the community from the dire effects of drug abuse that has bedevilled our community, whereby the ones certified “Clean” can be gainfully engaged by the firms plying their trades in the Community.
(d) To have Youths in Amuwo-Odofin LGA partake in the various Trainings Programs by NIMASA and other agencies of Government present in Amuwo-Odofin LGA for both Local & International Trainings.
(e) Supplies Support Services, The People’s Captain ADEBAYO DOSUNMU also engaged the Union Members to see how Youth’s and especially the Women folks in Amuwo-Odofin LGA can be coopted into the various supplies services schemes that abounds in the industry, so as to cushion the dire effects Poverty, as been made worst by the presence of Covid-19 Pandemic, of the women are worst hit.
The President-General and Assistant- Secretary General of the Maritime Union Workers Of Nigeria were full of praises for the People’s Captain, Hon ADEBAYO DOSUNMU, for his pragmatic approach towards seeing that poverty is reduced to the minimum in Amuwo-Odofin LGA and pray God Almighty to make his dream & indeed ambition of becoming the ” *Next Local Government Chairman” of Amuwo-Odofin LGA* come to past, saying that “They’d very happy to work closely with such a pragmatic & passionate leader who’s chosen to work tirelessly for his people & improve their lots, in order to leave marks and memories in the sands of times.
Prayers were offered for the reelection bid of the President-General while prayers were also offered for the Chairmanship ambition of the People’s Captain, Hon ADEBAYO DOSUNMU.
During the event of the 26th ,March, 2021, where various dignitaries were present including the President of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC)- Ayuba Wabba, Representative of the Office of the Minister of Transport, Right Honorable Amiachi Chibuike, Director-General of NIMASA, ably Represented by The Executive-Director- Cabotage Services & Maritime Labor), Right Honorable Engineer Victor Ochei ESQ, Former Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, who’s presently the Executive-Director, Cabotage Services & Maritime Labor with NIMASA who earlier in his Welcome address elucidated the various programs presently on at NIMASA, at reducing unemployment amongst our teeming Youths Population, the People’s Captain, Hon, ADEBAYO DOSUNMU had a chat with him as well, during the tea- break section along with the President of NLC- Comrade Ayuba Wabba to passionately solicit for the great people of Amuwo-Odofin LGA, especially the Youths Population, to participate fully in the various Programs Presently going on at NIMASA, the Executive-Director, Cabotage Services & Maritime Labor, therefore asked for a Strategic Meeting at his office, where he & the People’s Captain-Hon ADEBAYO DOSUNMU can have a more reboust and in house discussions in order to accommodate the Great people of Amuwo-Odofin LGA in the various Programs, Schemes available at NIMASA, for a greater productivities amongst the Youths Population in Amuwo-Odofin LGA. Hon, Victor Ochei ESQ a Dogged Politician himself, praised the negotiative skills of the People’s Captain ADEBAYO DOSUNMU, and the great love he has for his people of Amuwo-Odofin LGA and the passion to see them lead a better life in the midst of the very plenty opportunities offered in the Maritime Industry and for the better future of Amuwo-Odofin LGA Youths, he therefore prayed for him, and said he looks forward to the strategic meeting.
