Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has officially approved the appointment of Hon. Adebanji Atewogboye SKIBANJ as the Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports, Lagos.
The appointment was confirmed, today, with official letter via the Head of Service, office, Lagos Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
According to a source from the Secretariat, Hon. Atewogboye was spotted today, along his entourage to receive the letter confirming his appointment.
When approached by group of journalists from mainstream media, SKIBANJ said, : “With the approval letter of the appointment received today, as Senior Special Assistant to our distinguished Gov. Sanwo-Olu, I’m the SSA to H.E. Governor on Grassroots Sports”
The newly appointed SSA who couldn’t restricted his pleasure over the new roles, appreciated the Governor.
“I want to specially appreciate Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, the Governor of Lagos State, for founding me worthy for this great assignment – being the Senior Special Assistant (Grassroots Sport)”
Hon. Atewogboye, popularly known as SKIBANJ, explained that sports is a vital tool and a key enabler to ensuring a peaceful, healthy and economically vibrant environment.
My focus is to ensure that, I will give my full supports to the Executive Chairman and Director General Lagos State Sports Commission towards actualizing the mandate of taking sports to the doorsteps of Lagosians.
This is the time for paradigm shift in reference to the strategies of growing, promoting, building, identifying, training and developing raw young talents at the grassroots level, which is the key mandate of the Lagos State Sports Commission.
With my wealth of experience in grassroots sport development and the support of the Commissioner for Youth and Management of the Lagos State Sports Commission, deliberate action would be taking in identifying and grooming young talents cum providing them with the opportunities to compete at higher levels, because the strategic priorities is to build champions that would be useful to themselves and good ambassadors of Lagos and Nigeria at large.
To achieving this success, we will develop integrated programs that combines education, healthy living and sports while focusing on the following:
1. Establishing documents that would guide administration of sports backed by Law.
2. Resuscitation of Offices at the IBILE Divisions.
3. Functionality of the Local Government Sports Committee ( Sensitization Program with the Local Government Chairmen & Agric,Youth & Sport Department)
4. Retreat with the Sports Association Chairmen, TD, Coaches & Secretary
5. Monthly organization of Developmental programs in each of the 57 LGAs and LCDAs
6. Lagos go healthy (Fitness Fiesta)
7. Inclusion of people with disabilities/Women and Girls via Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs.
8. Distribution of equipment to Sports Associations and facilitation at the Local Government level before (for training purposes) and during competition. What Sport are we developing without adequate supply of equipment?
9. Synergizing Private Public Partnerships (PPP) for sports development and sustainability.
10. Annual Sports Stakeholders engagement e.g NGO based , Civil Society, NSSM, NAPHER-SD, Private Organizations, Sports enthusiasts amongst others.
11. Reinstates the likes of EKO FC to compete in the Nigeria Premier League and Lagos State Governors Principal Cups Competition.
The aforementioned are necessary, because the focal point is to establish a system whereby sport becomes an integral part of everyday life in Lagos State owing to the fact that, it is a powerful medium to alleviating sydentary lifestyle, social responsibility, reducing unemployment, low crime rates, good citizenship, gender equality, economic development and environmental sustainability.
I am full of enthusiasm that with the support of Mr. Sellable our Sports loving Governor, the above would be achieved to the betterment of Lagosians in achieving #AGreaterLagosRising and actualisation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
