FirstBank has supported 600 women affected by Vesicovaginal Fistula in Jigawa and Plateau States by funding their surgeries and providing aftercare kits.
A statement from the bank on Sunday noted that this initiative was part of its Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Week.
In addition to the surgeries and aftercare kits, the bank launched a rehabilitation program to assist these women in restoring their livelihoods.
The lender stated that the VVF awareness and surgery program for the 2024 CR&S Week aligns with the Education, Health and Welfare, and Diversity and Inclusion Pillars of its sustainability strategy.
The bank’s Executive Director of Public Sector, Shehu Aliyu, said “Through FirstBank’s partnership with the state governments, we aim to support the awareness and surgery initiative for this medical condition.”

The CR&S Week is a designated period during which employees of the FirstBank Group (including FirstBank Nigeria, FirstBank UK, FirstBank Gambia, FirstBank Sierra Leone, FirstBank DRC, FirstBank Guinea, FirstBank Ghana, FBNBank Senegal, First Pension, and First Nominees) dedicate their time and resources to specific causes aligned with the Bank’s CR&S strategic approach.
