The Chief Election Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Justice Adolphus Enebeli declared the results on Saturday in Port Harcourt.
Results declared by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission have shown that the All People’s Party (APP) won 22 of the 23 positions in the state’s local government elections.
The Chief Election Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Justice Adolphus Enebeli declared the results on Saturday in Port Harcourt.
He said the announcement is suspended in Etche Local Government Area because the collation of results is still ongoing.
He revealed that the results for Etche LGA will be declared alongside that of the 319 councillorship seats at a later date.
The election has been subject of controversies ranging from refusal of police to provide security for the election and protests by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the conduct of the elections.
Earlier on Saturday, Aaron Chukwuemeka, the Rivers PDP chairman, warned that announcing results could incite violence.
“We can’t support or promote lawlessness or impunity in any form whatsoever, even though we are the ruling party in Rivers state,” he said.
“The proper court judgments must be obeyed as we cannot choose or pick which order of court to obey or not to obey.”
