A farmer, identified as Musa Kalamu, has been killed by a herd of elephants believed to have escaped from a government forest reserve in Ogun State.
The fatal incident occurred at Onitasin Imobi, a rural community in Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the development to journalists, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, stated that the Divisional Police Officer in Ogbere received a distress report of the attack at about 4:20 p.m. on Monday.
The State Commissioner for Forestry, Mr. Taiwo Oludotun, also corroborated the incident.
According to him, “The DPO Ogbere received information from Itasin community on 28/07/2025 at about 1620hrs that elephants escaped from government reserve and attacked one Musa Kalamu who died on the way to the hospital.
“Officers of Ogun State Forestry were contacted to curtail the animals from further damage. Calm has returned to the community”.
Oludotun, added that the Ministry officials are aware of the incident and already on their way to the community.
Meanwhile, a video that has since gone viral shows the lifeless body of the victim killed in the wandering elephants’ attack.
