Speed Darlington
Detained Nigerian Rapper, Speed Darlington aka Akpi, has regained his freedom from Kuje prison after two months of unlawful incarceration and legal battles with the uncooperative police.
The soothing news “Speed Darlington is out of Kuje Prison” was announced on Tuesday evening, to his fans by his Lawyer and Activist, Deji Adeyanju, via his X handle.
Reports gathered shows that the police broke under the heavy pressure put upon them to either arraign him or set him free and the singer was finally released after he met all the bail conditions granted to him by the Federal High Court in Abuja last Wednesday.
Another post shared with a picture online by his other Lawyer, Stan Alieke showed Speed Darlington with blonde hair sitting in his office along with two other men.
Alieke, expressed gratitude to everyone who stood by and for Darlington during his incarceration and also the people who helped secure his release from the prison in Abuja.
His post read,
“Delighted to announce that our client, Mr Darlington Achakpo Aka Speed Darlington (Akpi) has regained his freedom after two months of illegal incarceration.
For the record, as his team of lawyers, we will be exploring every angle of the law to ensure that he gets justice for his fundamental human right which was deprived of him by the Nigerian Police Force and for the unfair/ unjust treatment he was subjected to.
Mr Achakpo extends his gratitude to everyone who threw in their support and Special thanks to my colleagues, Mr Marshal Abubakar Esq, Barr Deji Adeyanju, Barr Hamza Nuh, Barr David.
~ Freedom cometh by struggle.”
Recall that Darlington was arrested on November 27, 2024, during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, for making several statements that soiled the integrity of Grammy award singer, Burna Boy.
Statements which led to the charges of defamation and cyber bullying against him by Burna Boy.
