United States President Donald Trump is set to return to the White House on Monday.
He has promised to launch a new era of governance with bold promises to enforce strict immigration policies immediately.
Speaking at a “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” at the Capital One Arena in Washington, Trump declared, “By the time the sun sets tomorrow, the invasion of our country will have come to a halt,” drawing loud cheers from the packed crowd, Reuters reports.
Trump reiterated his plan to launch the largest deportation effort in U.S. history.
“This is the greatest political movement in American history, and 75 days ago, we achieved the most epic political victory our country has ever seen,” he said.
“Starting tomorrow, I will act with historic speed of strength and fix every single crisis facing our country.”
The rally, marked by ambitious promises, preceded his inauguration, which will feature more than 200 executive actions.
Trump vowed to repeal Biden’s executive orders, declare a border emergency, and reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” policy for asylum seekers.
He also pledged to remove “radical woke ideologies” from the military, construct a missile defence shield, and release classified documents related to the assassinations of JFK, Robert Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr.
Earlier, Trump paid tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and had breakfast with Republican senators.
Supporters endured cold rain, some staying overnight outside the arena. Val Tordjman, 58, said, “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew attended the rally, following Trump’s pledge to delay a U.S. ban on the platform. Trump took credit for saving TikTok, stating, “The U.S. will partner with bidders to save the app.”
Meanwhile, outgoing President Joe Biden spent his last day marking Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Charleston, South Carolina. Trump’s inaugural ceremony will be held indoors, with 25,000 law enforcement officers providing security.
