A Police officer accused of raping a 17-year-old girl at the Ogudu Area Command premises in Lagos State has been arraigned in court.
The suspect, identified only as Owolabi, was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility on Tuesday, while the case adjourned to March 11 pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The incident, which occurred on June 29, involved the teenage victim who had visited the station to report her stolen phone.
According to reports, the officer allegedly lured her into his office under false pretences, where he is accused of sexually assaulting her.
Mrs. Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, Head of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), commeded the swift legal action in a statement.
She noted the agency’s commitment to ensuring justice for survivors of sexual violence and reiterated the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance policy toward such crimes.
“We commend the judiciary for taking this case seriously and ensuring due process is followed,” Ladenegan-Oginni said.
“This case sends a strong message that no one is above the law, and perpetrators of sexual violence will be held accountable.”
She also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any incidents of sexual or domestic violence.
“We encourage everyone to say something when they see something. Your voice can make a difference in ensuring justice is served,” she added.
