LAHA Speaker, Obasanjo
Lateef Onikoyi has dismissed rumors suggesting that Mudashiru Obasa would step down as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly following his recent reinstatement.
Speaking in an interview with Arise News, Onikoyi stated that some lawmakers were misled into believing that Obasa had agreed to resign after reclaiming his position to allow another member from Lagos West to take over.
He insisted that Obasa never intended to step down, emphasizing that after winning the speakership, the reinstated Speaker only said he would “decide what to do later.”
Onikoyi also expressed sympathy and support for Mojisola Meranda, who resigned as Speaker to facilitate Obasa’s return.
“The young people in the house were lied to using that proposition. I wasn’t expecting Obasa to resign when he regained his position because he said he was returning and would decide later,” Onikoyi remarked.
He further stressed that the Lagos State House of Assembly should focus on serving the people’s interests rather than political maneuvers, calling for transparency and accountability in leadership.
