The Osun State Police Command has detained eight suspects for prosecution over the alleged mutilation of a 16-year-old boy’s scrotum in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of the state.
Vanguard reports that the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Osogbo.
According to him, three of the suspects, residents of Apomu, went to Arademi Area, Ikire, at about 4 p.m. on July 26 to cultivate farmland.
He explained that after cutting the grass, two of the suspects lured the victim into a remote bush and cut open his abdomen in an attempt to remove vital organs from his body.
“They, however, removed his scrotum and ran away when the victim raised an alarm,” Ojelabi said.
He added that police officers, upon being contacted, immediately moved to the scene, took the victim to a hospital for treatment, and later referred him to the University College Hospital.
Ojelabi stated that subsequent investigations led to the arrest of eight suspects linked to the incident.
He also revealed that, on July 30 at about 11:45 a.m., two suspected cult members allegedly operating at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, were arrested in front of the school.
Other arrests in July, according to Ojelabi, included a suspect who robbed someone of an iPhone 11 at Oke Baale, Osogbo, and another found with a cut-to-size gun after his motorcycle was stopped at Sedona, Ede.
He added that police also apprehended a suspect who stole a motorcycle from a mosque.
“All suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” Ojelabi said.
