The Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State has been thrown into deep mourning following the sudden death of its Legal Officer, Barrister Omotola Bello (Esq.), marking the sixth death of a local government official in Lagos State within just three months.
Barr. Bello’s death comes as a devastating blow to the council, which only recently celebrated the inauguration of its new chairman on July 27, 2025. His passing adds to the growing list of tragic losses among council officers across Lagos, sparking widespread concern among government circles and residents alike.
In an official statement, the Leader of the 6th Legislative Assembly, Hon. Agbeyangi Olaoluwa Andrew, alongside the Council Chairman, councillors, and the entire legislative staff of Itire-Ikate LCDA, expressed profound grief over the development, describing Bello’s death as “a painful and irreparable loss to the council and the entire community.”
The late legal officer was reportedly a dedicated public servant known for his professionalism, humility, and commitment to upholding the rule of law within the council’s administration.
While the cause of death remains undisclosed, the recurring loss of senior local government officials in Lagos State over such a short period has raised concern among stakeholders, with many calling for a review of workplace health and welfare conditions across councils.
