The All Progressives Congress (APC), has launched a scathing attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), mocking the wave of high-profile defections rocking Nigeria’s main opposition.
The Lagos APC described remaining PDP leaders as mere “undertakers” preparing for the final burial of a party it claims has lost relevance in Nigeria’s political future.
In response to the recent defection of PDP lawmakers and key figures to the ruling party, Lagos APC spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, warned the opposition against dismissing the growing exodus from its ranks.
“The PDP’s claim that defections cannot break it is not only laughable but reveals a chronic state of denial and self-deception,” Oladejo stated.
He described the ongoing defections not as routine political shifts but as a direct result of the PDP’s prolonged internal crises, ideological vacuum, and leadership failures.
“What’s happening is the inevitable collapse of a house built on quicksand. Even its loyalists have lost faith in a party that has refused to reform or present a credible alternative to Nigerians,” he added.
Oladejo accused the PDP of thriving on propaganda and failing to reinvent itself after losing power, asserting that the party remains plagued by confusion and leadership gaps.
Citing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a key factor driving confidence in the APC, Oladejo said recent defections signify more than political shifts, they represent a public endorsement of the APC’s governance direction.
“The party is obviously over for the former ‘largest party in Africa.’ The sooner it accepts this reality, the less humiliating its final exit will be,” he said.
With more defections expected ahead of the 2027 elections, APC says the writing is on the wall for the PDP. As Oladejo puts it, “The Nigerian people are speaking loudly, and the message is clear, the era of deceitful opposition politics is over.”
