Former Senator and media entrepreneur, Ben Murray-Bruce, has announced his decision to join the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, praising President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, economic reforms, and infrastructural agenda as transformative steps toward rebuilding Nigeria’s future.
In a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, Mr Murray-Bruce said his decision was driven not by politics but by conviction, describing Tinubu as a visionary leader with deep understanding of governance, finance, and nation-building.
“I have known President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu since 1998. I know the man’s mind, his courage, and his conviction. He is not driven by applause, he is driven by results. And today, I can boldly say to you that he is on the right track,” Mr Murray-Bruce said.
The former lawmaker, who represented Bayelsa East Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, said Tinubu’s administration had demonstrated uncommon discipline in economic management and boldness in implementing reforms that many past governments avoided.
According to him, Nigeria is currently undergoing a difficult but necessary transition toward a more competitive and sustainable economy.
“For the first time in our nation’s history, we have a President who truly understands finance, who sees the economy not as a political slogan, but as a living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe,” he said.
Mr Murray-Bruce argued that the ongoing economic reforms — including deregulation of the petroleum sector and the restructuring of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, — would serve as the foundation for long-term prosperity.
“The painful reforms we face today are the very foundation of tomorrow’s prosperity. We are moving into a free-market economy, one that rewards hard work and innovation instead of dependency and distortion,” he added.
He commended the administration’s efforts in national security and foreign policy, noting that the appointment of a new National Security Adviser had “redefined Nigeria’s safety architecture,” while the CBN, under new management, was “stabilizing the economy and restoring the dignity of the naira.”
Mr Murray-Bruce also highlighted Tinubu’s infrastructural drive, which he described as “unprecedented,” citing the expansion of road networks, modernization of ports and airports, and rollout of affordable housing schemes as evidence of renewed commitment to national development.
“These developments are not just concrete and steel; they are the arteries through which growth and opportunity now flow,” he said.
Acknowledging the economic hardship facing many families, the former senator urged Nigerians to endure the short-term pain in anticipation of lasting progress.
“I know it is still a difficult season for many families. But as history teaches, reform is never painless. Yet, it is in these moments of sacrifice that nations are reborn,” he said.
Announcing his defection to the APC, Murray-Bruce said his decision was motivated by belief in Tinubu’s vision rather than partisan interest.
“That is why today, I am joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), not for politics, but for progress. Because I believe that Bola Tinubu’s leadership, guided by courage and intellect, will deliver the Nigeria we have all dreamed of,” he declared.
The former senator expressed optimism that the Tinubu administration would achieve “phenomenal growth” by the end of its two-term tenure.
“Mark my words: in the full term of eight years, Nigeria will witness phenomenal growth. I choose to stand with that vision. I choose to stand with reform. I choose to stand with the future,” he concluded.
Mr Murray-Bruce, who is also the founder of the Silverbird Group, served in the Senate from 2015 to 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
His defection to the APC marks a significant political shift and aligns him with the ruling party’s reform agenda.
