The Lagos State Government has announced an extensive traffic diversion plan ahead of the 10th edition of the Lagos Women Run, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, with the race kicking off at 6:00 a.m.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the temporary traffic arrangement is aimed at safeguarding runners and reducing disruptions for road users.
The 10-kilometre annual race, organised by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) in partnership with event sponsors, will begin at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) and finish at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
According to the government, partial road closures will occur along major corridors including TBS, Water Board, Old NITEL, Outer Marina, Officers Mess, Bonny Camp Bridge, State House, Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola Street, Falomo Bridge, Falomo Roundabout, Awolowo Road, Onikan Roundabout, and the Mobolaji Johnson Arena axis.
Osiyemi assured that officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps (LSNC) will be strategically deployed to manage traffic and ensure public safety throughout the event.
He advised motorists to make use of designated alternative routes.
“Motorists from Ozumba Mbadiwe heading to the Third Mainland Bridge should divert through Bonny Camp to Onikan Underpass, then connect Marina Exit to Force Road, linking Outer Marina before merging onto the Third Mainland Bridge,” he said.
“For drivers from Apongbon heading to Ikoyi, the easier route is through Odunlami Street to Igbosere Road, then Moloney Street, and onward to Ikoyi Road.”
The State Government urged residents to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officials, noting that affected roads will be reopened gradually as the marathon progresses.
Osiyemi added that the Lagos Women Run remains a significant platform for promoting fitness, gender equality, and social inclusion among women across the state and beyond.
