A United States Army soldier of Nigerian descent, Sulaiman Isa, has vowed never to take part in any military action against Nigeria, dismissing reports of widespread religious persecution in the country as “false and misleading.”
In a statement shared on social media, Isa, who hails from Kano State, said no circumstance could compel him to “invade his own country or harm his parents and relatives” based on what he described as exaggerated or fabricated allegations of Christian killings in Nigeria.
“I can never fight against my homeland. Nigeria is where my family and roots are. No soldier with conscience will attack his own people because of lies,” he said.
The U.S. soldier condemned all forms of violence, extremism, and religious intolerance, emphasising that terrorist groups operating in Nigeria—such as those led by Abubakar Shekau, Bello Turji, and Dogo Gide—have attacked both Muslims and Christians without discrimination.
“These insurgents don’t care about religion. They kill everyone—Muslims, Christians, men, women, and children alike,” Isa stated.
He urged Nigerians to stand united and reject narratives designed to divide the country or justify foreign interference, warning that such tactics only serve to deepen mistrust and destabilize communities.
Isa’s comments come amid rising international scrutiny following recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who accused the Nigerian government of ignoring the alleged “genocide” of Christians and hinted at possible U.S. intervention.
The soldier’s declaration has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians praising his patriotism and calling for global media to portray a more balanced account of the country’s complex security challenges.
