Ahead of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Lagos State, the Lagos Island local government held Stakeholders’ meeting with residents, community development associations and traders earlier today, Friday 24 April, 2026
The sanitation exercise will hold on saturday 25 April, 2026 and every last Saturday of the month
across Lagos State between 6:30am and 8:30am.
In his speech, the Council Chairman, Hon. Taiwo Oyekan said the civic engagement was organised to create awareness, foster collaboration and facilitate informed decision-making among the citizenry.
He urged residents and traders to participate actively in the environmental sanitation exercise.
Speaking on the rollout of Waste Disposal Truck and Tricycles Waste Collectors, Hon. Oyekan said the environmental intervention initiative is part of his effort to restore environmental cleanliness and sustainability.
“With the acquisition of waste disposal truck and
introduction of Tricycle waste collectors, the council’s waste management officers would be able to reach the nooks and crannies of our communities to collect refuse and dispose off properly”, Hon. Oyekan said.
Hon. Oyekan also stated that Waste Bins of different sizes will be placed at strategic locations across Lagos Island local government area.
He enjoined the residents and traders to keep their residences and shops clean always.
The Special Adviser on Environment to the Lagos State Governor, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu said the Lagos Island local government’s Environmental Sanitation drive is in line with the THEMES+ Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He commended Hon. Oyekan’s proactive approach to grassroot governance and environmental sustainability.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources, Engr. Mahamood Olakunle Adegbite tasked locals on regular desilting of drainage systems and cleaner environment as the rainy season approaches.He also lauded the mayor’s strides at the grassroot.
The Lagos Island local government reiterated its commitment to advancing community cleanliness and aesthetics.
