Manchester City came from a goal down to defeat Southampton 2-1 in their English FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday.
A spectacular Nico Gonzalez’s winner settled the match after Jeremy Doku’s deflected strike cancelled Finn Azaz’s stunning opener as all goals came in the last 11 minutes of the pulsating encounter.
Man City rested their talisman Erling Haaland while Rodri was still nursing an injury, but it did not stop the Cityzens from dominating proceedings. They did not create much as Omar Marmoush and Tijani Reinjders both went close in the first half.
The pattern continued in the second half until Azaz finished off a counter attack with a stunning 25 yard curler into the top corner to hand dogged Southampton the lead.
The advantage only lasted three minutes when Doku’s strike hit a Southampton player to put it out of reach of the Saints’ goalkeeper.
Gonzalez scored the winner with an unstoppable strike from almost 30 yards to send the Manchester club into the final.
It is the fourth consecutive FA Cup final for Man City, the first team to ever achieve the feat in the competition.
Pep Guardiola’s side are still in the hunt for a domestic treble, and face the winner of the second semi-final between Chelsea and Leeds United.
