The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled July 2 for the continuation of a hearing in a lawsuit filed by Mr. Amechi Michael against British Airways regarding his allegedly missing carry-on luggage.
During cross-examination at the resumed hearing, the plaintiff, Mr. Amechi Michael, informed the court that after reporting the incident to the airline’s customer care service, he was referred to the UK-based Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) for resolution.
He explained that while the arbitrator issued a ruling in his favour concerning the flight delay, the issue of the missing carry-on luggage was not addressed.
Mr. Amechi stated that he was dissatisfied with the arbitral decision, rejected the award, and sought redress from the Federal High Court in Abuja for the alleged loss of his luggage.
He argued that British Airways had a duty of care to return his luggage and claimed that the airline’s staff acted negligently.
Counsel for the plaintiff, Ms. Abiola Olaitan, informed the court of her intention to close her client’s case. Following this, the trial judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, adjourned the matter until July 2 for the defense and continuation of the trial.
The plaintiff instituted the suit marked, FHC/ABJ/CS/1293/2025 against British Airways, seeking recovery of his carry-on luggage allegedly lost during a delayed boarding process.
He said this was after a cabin crew member requested that it be handed over for safekeeping.
