The Nigerian Correctional Service has destroyed 1,167 mobile phones and other contraband recovered from custodial centres nationwide over the past eight months.

Controller-General Nigerian Correctional Service said 147 personnel were also sanctioned for misconduct, including involvement in smuggling prohibited items into prisons.
