The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia, AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu, has died after a battle with cancer.
The sad development was announced on Saturday by Alex Otti during an event in Umuahia.
Speaking while delivering his acceptance speech after emerging as the Labour Party governorship candidate for a second term ahead of the 2027 election, Governor Otti expressed profound sorrow over the passing of the senior police officer.
He described the late AIG as a diligent, hardworking and committed officer who served Nigeria with dedication, professionalism and integrity throughout his distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force.
The governor prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased officer’s soul and urged God to grant his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the strength to bear the painful and irreparable loss.
A minute’s silence was observed in honour of the late police chief at the International Conference Centre Umuahia, where the announcement was made.
