The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended the Auditor-General for Local Government, Abraham Gberidyer, over allegations of N4.6bn fraud and financial misconduct.

The decision followed a letter from Governor Hyacinth Alia, who said the official is under investigation and should step aside pending probe.

Lawmakers approved the suspension unanimously to allow for a full investigation.
