Professor Segun Aina
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede whose second and final tenure expires on July 31, 2026.
The appointment, announced in a statement issued on Thursday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, signals a generational shift in the leadership of the nation’s foremost admissions body, with Aina set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, is a renowned academic, systems engineer and digital infrastructure expert with vast experience in examination administration, institutional reform and public-sector technology systems.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent. He also obtained a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
He further sharpened his administrative and leadership competence through the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
According to the Presidency, Aina’s relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service days, when he first worked with the examination body and gained critical exposure to national admissions systems and data-driven institutional processes.
The statement noted that the experience helped shape his long-standing contributions to examination reform, digital transformation and systems optimisation within Nigeria’s education sector.
With more than 15 years of post-graduation professional experience, Aina has advised both federal and state governments on digital transition, policy implementation and operational reforms. At age 39, he emerged as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering.
He has also consulted for major examination bodies, including National Examinations Council (NECO), National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several state ministries of education, particularly in the areas of ICT deployment, examination integrity and digital process management.
Professor Aina belongs to several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new registrar would leverage his vast knowledge, practical insight and technological expertise to consolidate on the achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership and take JAMB to greater heights.
