A 34-year-old Atlanta man has been indicted on murder and other charges after prosecutors alleged he fatally stabbed his 4-year-old daughter in an act of revenge against the child’s mother.
According to authorities in Fulton County, Georgia, Rashad Dixon faces a 12-count indictment in connection with the death of his daughter, Zuri Dixon. Prosecutors allege the killing occurred during a domestic violence incident involving the child’s mother, Jazzuri Rouse.
Investigators said they reviewed a 911 call made on the night of the incident, during which Rouse could reportedly be heard pleading for help and urging Dixon to stop. Authorities allege the call was abruptly cut off after Dixon interfered, rendering the phone unusable during the emergency.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said prosecutors believe Dixon killed the child to cause emotional harm to her mother. The state is seeking a life sentence if he is convicted.
The indictment includes charges of murder, first-degree cruelty to children, hindering an emergency telephone call, and other related offenses. Prosecutors further allege that Dixon stabbed the phone to prevent communication with emergency services and damaged a vehicle window during the incident.
Authorities also said Dixon suffered a minor self-inflicted neck injury following the attack. Investigators believe the injury was an attempt to evade accountability. He was treated and later released into custody.
Prosecutors noted that the case follows allegations of prior abuse involving Rouse. They described the incident as part of a broader pattern of domestic violence in which escalating abuse can culminate in fatal outcomes.
Officials handling domestic violence cases in Fulton County said the tragedy underscores the continuing dangers posed by intimate partner violence and its impact on children and families. Meanwhile, the Georgia Public Defender Council confirmed that Dixon has legal representation and remains entitled to due process as both the Fulton County and Clayton County cases move through the courts.
