United States President Donald Trump has stirred widespread reactions after joking about seeking a third term in office and unveiling a “Trump 2028” cap during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, despite the U.S. Constitution barring presidents from being elected more than twice.

Addressing guests at the annual event, Trump quipped, “I’m running again,” drawing laughter and renewed speculation over his repeated remarks about extending his time in office.

The president also displayed a “Trump 2028” cap, a move that quickly sparked conversations on social media, with supporters treating it as a light-hearted gesture while critics viewed it as another attempt to challenge constitutional norms.

The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution limits presidents to two elected terms, making a third elected term constitutionally impossible unless the Constitution is amended.

During the dinner, Trump also took several humorous jabs at members of the media, marking his first appearance at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after years of skipping the event.

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner, traditionally attended by journalists, government officials and celebrities, is known for its blend of political satire and speeches from public officials.

While Trump’s comments were widely interpreted as jokes, they have once again reignited debate over his repeated references to serving beyond two terms and the constitutional limits on presidential tenure.
