Following persistent heavy downpour resulting in flooding in communities on Lagos Island local government area, the Executive Chairman, Mayor Taiwo OYEKAN, has reassured residents of the council authority’s plan to mitigate its effects on the environment and the locals.
In his swift intervention, the council chairman issued flood alert advisory.
Mayor Oyekan stated that the volume of rain water has overwhelmed drainage networks and water channels, causing widespread flooding across the communities.
He urged residents and traders to shun actions that could result in flooding and blockage of drainage systems.
He said: “Dear residents and traders on Lagos Island local government area, as the rainy season enters its peak period, the risk of flooding increases in communities and suburbs”.
“I urge you to shun actions that could cause flooding. Do not dump refuse in drainage system, desist from construction of illegal structures on drainage system or obstruct water channels and protect the environment
He also enjoined residents and traders to embrace the Imototo PTO Initiative.
Mayor Oyekan reiterated his administration’s commitment to community regeneration and environmental sustainability.
