The NDLEA has arrested 55-year-old trader Ndubisi Chinedu Onuigbo on suspicion of attempting to ship 3.30 kg of cocaine concealed within the walls of cartons used for food items bound for the United Kingdom.

Onuigbo, a clothing seller at Lagos Island’s Balogun Market, was picked up on Thursday, July 23, 2026, after the shipment was intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport export shed on Wednesday, July 22.

The probe first led to three cargo agents—Nkwor Onyekachukwu Justina, Adeleke Abiola Taoheed and Ukanwa Grace Pilgrim—who dealt with the consignment; their arrests then implicated Kenneth Okakpu, the individual who delivered the package for export.

Continued investigation pointed to Onuigbo as the alleged ring leader, and he was arrested while attempting to dispatch another cocaine load to the UK.

In an unrelated swoop, NDLEA operatives arrested 31-year-old Emmanuella Chukwu-Edo at her Surulere residence on Tuesday, July 21, after seizing 2.80 kg of Canadian Loud, a strong synthetic cannabis strain, which had arrived from the United States on a United Airlines flight on Monday, July 20.

The agency said the action was based on processed intelligence. The Canadian Loud seizure followed the interception of a tramadol consignment hidden inside containers of black soap and destined for the UK, which was uncovered at a Lagos courier company on Wednesday, July 22.

At Apapa Seaport, officers discovered 4,777 sachets of Canadian Loud—totaling 2,388.5 kg and valued at more than N7.1 billion—hidden inside three vehicles loaded in a container; that discovery was made during a joint inspection on Monday, July 20.

Meanwhile in Edo State, NDLEA raided a warehouse in Ilushi Community, Esan South‑East LGA, on Sunday, July 19, recovering 1,286 kg of cannabis and 86 kg of cannabis seeds.

The operation led to the arrest of 45-year-old Ojore Onweze with 60 kg of skunk and 30-year-old George Agwumede with 13 kg.
