Barcelona have announced the transfer of Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, from Manchester City on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old signed a four-year deal and will be at the club until 2030.
Rodri joins Barcelona for a reported fee of around £65 million, and the Madrid-born player returns to Spain after seven years.
Rodri was heavily linked with Real Madrid following his heroic World Cup campaign, where he led Spain to its second title. However, Barcelona swooped in to sign the midfielder, who won a treble with Manchester City, including the elusive UEFA Champions League in 2023, and Rodri said he is ready for a new challenge at his unveiling at Camp Nou.
“I’m very happy and excited about this new stage in my career. It’s a fresh challenge, a chance to experience new things and feel that excitement again.
“I’m here to compete for everything, for big things like the Champions League.
“I’ve come to a hugely ambitious club that really suits my personality, so I’ll try to help in every way I can to achieve our objectives this season.”
The Villarreal academy product has suffered long-term injuries in recent years but returned to lead Spain to victory in US, and he believes Hansi Flick, Barcelona coach, can still impact his career and assured the club of his best.
“I’m happy to have a coach who I think will bring a lot to my career. It’s a style that I think is somewhat different from what I’ve experienced before, so it will be enriching and help me grow as a player.”
“It’s a pleasure to be at Barça. I’ll give 100% of everything I have.”
Rodri won four English Premier League titles at Man City, claiming 12 major trophies in seven years.
