The overall best graduating student at Lagos State University (LASU) has been awarded N10 million in recognition of his academic excellence.
Ahead of this year’s convocation on August 18, Samuel Oluolamide, a student of aerospace engineering, achieved a cumulative grade point of 4.97. Oluolamide was presented with a dummy cheque of N10 million during the pre-convocation event on Monday.
In an X post, Oluolamide announced his latest academic achievement, describing it as “God’s doing”. Oluolamide also revealed plans to narrate his journey.
“4.97 / 5.00 CGPA. Overall Best Graduating Student, Lagos State University (2025/2026). Out of 8,653 graduates across all faculties, God did it! First Class Honours in Aerospace Engineering. Full journey thread dropping soon,” he wrote.
The cash prize was presented under the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme (SEPP).
“The Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme (SEPP) connects top-performing students with real industry opportunities in agriculture, logistics, and energy, Nigeria’s most critical growth sectors,” the organisers wrote on its website.
“SEPP isn’t just an award. It’s your gateway to mentorship, career pathways, and professional development that starts while you’re still in school.”
The award is part of SEPP’s efforts, in partnership with corporate organisations, to reward academic excellence and encourage innovation among university students.
The 2026 convocation will mark the 29th and 30th ceremonies, consisting of 20,648 students. Out of the total graduating students, 494 earned first class honours across two academic sessions.
