Amid excitement, the Executive Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, Prince Taiwo  Oyekan, has distributed assorted food items to
residents and vulnerable persons across Isale-Eko, Olowogbowo, and Okoo Faji communities on Friday 14 August 2026 at the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute Ground, Oja Oba Road, Lagos Island.

Mini-Size Bags of Rice, 5Kg Beef, Bottles of Vegetable Oil and Palm Oil and Seasonings were gifted.

The social welfare intervention is aimed at alleviating poverty, supporting vulnerable groups, and boosting grassroots socioeconomic development.

Addressing the lively crowd of beneficiaries and community stakeholders, Prince Oyekan, represented by the vice chairman, Hon. Arulai Folami stated that the charitable initiative was designed to directly lessen economic hardships within grassroots households.

He said: “The distribution exercise is part of my administration’s committed drive to deliver people-centric governance and align local welfare projects with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Mayor took the opportunity to advocate active civic participation and collaborative socioeconomic development on the Island.

He urged residents to support the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also tasked the beneficiaries to intensify grassroots mobilization for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Lagos Island, Alh. Ganiu Sadiq hailed Mayor Oyekan’s unprecedented achievements and social welfare scheme.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Olayemi Bello expressed appreciation to Oyekan.

She said: “I am so grateful and glad for the food items gift, everyone is happy and the distribution is timely.”

The venue was filled with songs of praise and cheers as the food packages were handed out.
