Tragedy has hit Amufu community in Edumoga, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, following the reported deaths of four siblings after they allegedly consumed a soft drink given to them by their uncle.

The children, aged 12, seven, five and three, reportedly died last week.

The incident was brought to public attention by popular Idoma activist Meddy Olotu, who shared a lengthy video about the tragedy on his Facebook page.

In the video, the grieving father alleged that his four children became sick after sharing a bottle of soft drink reportedly given to them by a relative identified as Anthony Adam.

According to the father, he was not at home when the drink was allegedly given to the children, adding that he and Adam were not on speaking terms at the time.

He explained that about two to three days later, all four children began falling ill. He initially rushed one of them to the hospital and later returned home, intending to take the remaining children to stay with relatives while he attended to the hospitalized child.

However, when he returned, he discovered that another child had also become sick.

The father said the situation deteriorated rapidly. While he was trying to manage the emergency, the first child died and was brought home. The other children subsequently became ill, and by 7 a.m. the following day, three of the siblings had died.
He said his first son, the fourth child, died at about 12 p.m.

Overwhelmed by the loss of all four children, the father said he survived the devastating period because people around him prevented him from harming himself.

He further stated that Anthony Adam and his son denied knowing anything about the circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths.

Another video circulating online reportedly showed the moment Adam was picked up by youths from the community.

As of the time the report was filed, attempts by DAILY POST to obtain a response from the Benue State Police Command had been unsuccessful.

The exact cause of the children’s deaths has not been officially established, and the allegation surrounding the soft drink remains an allegation pending investigation.
