The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have announced a one-off N4,000 fee for the verification of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) O’Level results for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The two examination bodies, in a joint statement, said the new arrangement would enable candidates to verify their results through JAMB without having to repeatedly visit tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.

The statement was made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja by the JAMB spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin.

Under the arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated by JAMB would be required to verify their WAEC results once through the JAMB-provided verification platform.

According to JAMB and WAEC, the outcome of the verification would subsequently be made available to the tertiary institution where the candidate is seeking admission.

The bodies stressed that the N4,000 verification fee would be paid only once and directly through the specified JAMB platform, warning candidates against making additional payments to their preferred institutions for the same purpose.

“Tertiary institutions are to utilise the verified results shared by JAMB for screening, processing candidate admission and other administrative purposes,” the statement said.

It added that candidates would not be required to pay for another verification after successfully completing the process through JAMB.

WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary institutions for admission-related purposes.

The new system is designed to allow a verified WASSCE O’Level result to be used for multiple admission purposes, eliminating the need for candidates to repeat the verification process at different institutions.

JAMB and WAEC said the initiative would reduce the stress and cost associated with repeated result verification while allowing candidates to initiate the process from the comfort of their homes or any internet-enabled location.

They encouraged candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions to take advantage of the arrangement by verifying their WASSCE O’Level results once through the JAMB-provided Verification Service.

The examination bodies said the collaboration was part of efforts to put candidates’ interests first, reduce unnecessary costs and simplify the admission process while ensuring the integrity and security of academic records.
