A disagreement between two neighbours in Mowe, Ogun State, has ended in tragedy, after a 38-year-old man reportedly lost his life during a confrontation with another resident.

The deceased, Oje Michael Eje, was a university graduate who studied Guidance and Counselling. His neighbour, 43-year-old Edebiri Temitope, is now in police custody over the incident.

The trouble reportedly started after Eje interacted with Temitope’s three-year-old child.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, Eje hugged the child and played with him. Temitope reportedly took issue with the interaction, believing the manner of play was inappropriate.

What happened next turned the disagreement into a deadly confrontation.

Police said the 43-year-old picked up a bamboo stick and repeatedly attacked Eje. The 38-year-old eventually collapsed and died.

After the incident, Temitope reportedly left the area with his family and was initially listed as being at large.

Police investigators, however, continued efforts to locate him.

The Ogun State Police Command later confirmed that Temitope had been arrested in connection with Eje’s death.

The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

Authorities are now working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the events that led to the death of the 38-year-old graduate.
