Abimbola Akinajo, managing director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), says there will be three additional Blue Line rail stations by the end of February 2027.
In a statement on Thursday, LAMATA said Akinajo announced the planned opening of the FESTAC, Alakija and Trade Fair stations during the 2026 media parley organised by the Lagos state ministry of transportation.
“The new stations — FESTAC, Alakija and Trade Fair — will extend the reach of the Blue Line and increase the number of operational stations from five to eight, marking another significant milestone in Lagos State’s drive to deliver an integrated, efficient and world-class public transportation system,” the statement reads.
According to LAMATA, the Blue Line currently operates five stations: Marina, National Theatre, Iganmu, Alaba and Mile 2.
The addition of the three stations will bring the number of operational stations on the line to eight.
“The expansion is expected to strengthen connectivity, improve access to mass transit and provide more residents with an alternative to road transportation, as Lagos continues to invest in modern transport infrastructure to meet the mobility needs of its growing population,” the statement reads.
According to LAMATA, Akinajo disclosed that four quality bus corridors (QBCs) are nearing completion.
She said construction work on the Marina and Mile 2 interchange hubs has also recorded considerable progress.
The Blue Line was inaugurated in September 2023, with commercial operations commencing in September 2023, after the completion of its first phase from Marina to Mile 2.
