The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on political parties and candidates whose names were omitted from its final list for the 2027 elections to submit formal complaints through the appropriate channels. The development follows concerns raised by several parties over missing governorship and State House of Assembly candidates.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) said it was engaging with INEC to resolve the discrepancies and exploring the 14-day window under the Electoral Act 2026 to correct errors. The party maintained that its candidates had completed the required registration and submission processes.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP), meanwhile, said it had prepared an affidavit and initiated legal steps over the omission of some of its candidates. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) have also raised concerns about missing names on the electoral commission’s list.
INEC has said it will not rely on media reports to address the complaints, leaving affected parties to pursue formal procedures. The dispute comes as preparations continue for the 2027 elections, with parties seeking clarification on the status of their candidates and possible corrections to the published list.
