President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform the lesser Hajj, known as Umrah, and pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity and stability.
The planned trip was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to the statement, the visit will provide Tinubu with an opportunity for spiritual reflection, devotion and prayers for the country’s continued progress.
“While in Makkah, President Tinubu will perform the religious rites associated with Umrah, seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people,” the statement said.
Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to the holy city of Makkah that can be performed at any time of the year, unlike the annual Hajj, which takes place during a specified period in the Islamic calendar.

The President is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the spiritual exercise.
Before departing Abuja, Tinubu is scheduled to commission equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force for its operations.
The commissioning will take place at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, according to the statement.
The State House did not provide further details about the equipment to be commissioned or the specific operational capabilities they are expected to enhance.
The planned commissioning comes amid the military’s continuing operations against insurgents, bandits and other armed groups threatening security in different parts of the country.
The President’s return is expected next week, the statement added.
