A relationship that had lasted for years reportedly came to a tragic end in Lagos after a man identified as Abiodun died following an incident at his residence in the Idimu area of the state.
The man, believed to be in his early 30s, reportedly consumed an insecticide during an argument with his longtime girlfriend after she informed him that she wanted to end their relationship.
The incident happened on Saturday evening in the Ire Akari area of the community.
According to information gathered by PUNCH Metro, the disagreement began when the woman made it clear that she was no longer interested in continuing the relationship. The argument reportedly escalated before she eventually left the house.
However, what happened after her departure left residents struggling to save Abiodun’s life.
He was discovered after consuming the substance and was immediately rushed to a hospital along Powerline Road for medical attention.
A resident familiar with the incident told PUNCH Metro that Abiodun’s mother was contacted shortly after the development. She reportedly works at a supermarket within the neighbourhood and made frantic efforts to ensure her son received the necessary treatment.
The family was faced with the challenge of raising money for his medical care, as his mother tried to obtain the drugs recommended by the hospital.
Unfortunately, the situation took a devastating turn on Sunday morning.
According to the resident, Abiodun’s mother returned to the hospital with the required medication, only to receive the heartbreaking news that her son had died.
His remains were subsequently buried on Monday.
Meanwhile, the whereabouts of the girlfriend involved in the disagreement have remained unknown since the incident.
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said she had not received information about the case. She promised to make further enquiries and provide an update, but no additional response had been received as of the time of reporting.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the importance of taking emotional distress seriously, particularly when someone is struggling with a difficult personal situation.
If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress or thoughts of s*icide, seek immediate support from trusted people and qualified mental health professionals.
