A 19-year-old Nigerian, Fawaz Oyedeji, has been sentenced to four years in prison in the United Kingdom after attempting to steal a £72,500 Porsche Cayenne using an imitation firearm.

Oyedeji reportedly posed as a prospective buyer after responding to an online car listing and arranged to inspect the vehicle at the seller’s home in Southwark, London, on March 18, 2025. During the meeting, he allegedly produced what appeared to be a gun, pointed it at the seller and demanded the car keys.

The seller resisted, forcing Oyedeji to abandon the attempt and flee. Police later traced the phone used to arrange the viewing, obtained CCTV footage and recovered clothing linked to the incident. He was arrested at his home in Greenwich within 38 hours.

A jury at Inner London Crown Court found him guilty of attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence. He was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment on November 5, 2026.
