Garba Nadama, a former governor of Sokoto state, is dead.
Nadama had a stint as governor of the state in the second republic — from January 1982 to November 1983.
He was said to have died at his residence in the state capital at the age of 82.
The Sokoto state government, in a statement, said the former governor died after “an illness of natural cause”.
He obtained a PhD degree in history from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1977.
Nadama became a member of the National Political Reform Council, and later a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was also a director of Societe Generale Bank Nigeria (SGBN).
In April 2008, he was appointed deputy national secretary of a committee to review recommendations for resolving internal disputes in the PDP.
Aminu Tambuwal, governor of the state, described Nadama as a visionary statesman who offered wise counsel for the development of the state.
“A dedicated statesman and visionary whose ideas positioned the state on a solid foundation,” Tambuwal said.
“The deceased was unrelenting in offering wise counsel for the advancement of the state and its people.”
