The president of the Nigerian Olympian Association, Olumide Oyedeji, has congratulated the Minister for Youth and Sports, Chief Sunday Dare, on the conferment of a chieftancy title on him by the paramount traditional ruler of Ogbomosoland, the Soun Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyedunni Oyewumi III.
Oyedeji, noted that, the Sports Minister who is now the new
Agbaakin of Ogbomosholand, deserves the chieftancy title, which is of great importance to the people Ogbomosholand, as he has been identified for his dynamism, courage and bravery which he has demonstrated in his effective performances in his capacity as the Youths and Sports Minister of Nigeria as well as that of a true son of Ogbomosoland.
The Soun of Ogbomosho had said during the installation of the title on the Minister: “The title of Agbaakin is one of the highest titles conferred on any courageous, hardworking, dedicated and prominent son of Ogbomosho that has done a lot for the development of the town. The important role of Dare in Ogbomosholand and Nigeria in general cannot be undermined.” Adding that: “Sunday Dare’s giant strides in youth empowerment, provision of infrastructure and sports development cannot be over-emphasized. He is a true son of the soil and a worthy Nigerian in whom we are pleased. I hereby confer this title on you for your outstanding performance.”
Oyedeji, stressed that, Sunday Dare, as Nigeria’s number one Youths and Sports citizen, has demonstrated great love for the country’s Olympians and sports men and women generally.
“His passionate and dedicated search for sponsorship for top Nigerian athletes who have qualified for the Olympics, tells a lot about the Sports Minister’s desire to see Nigeria produce greater achievements in the Olympics and also better quality Olympians. It’s the first time this is happening in the history of Nigerian sports.
“The Minister’s love for Olympians to continue to be relevant gives us in the NOA a renewed hope that after making Nigeria great in the Olympics, we are still relevant in the country’s sports polity in various capacities most suited.
“With Sunday Dare, the fortunes of the Nigerian Olympian Association has changed for the better,” Olumide Oyedeji said from his base in Lagos.
