The Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, says he would never support anarchy and chaos as a traditional ruler.
Alake said this at the sideline of the commissioning of a project named after him at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
The monarch’s reaction was in response to a threat by some agitators of the Yoruba nation believed to be loyal to the Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho.
Alake was tackled for not supporting their agitation on the alleged calls for secession from Nigeria and plans to form a Yoruba nation.
Two of the aides of Igboho had during the weekend made some video clips attacking the monarch, claiming that he made some comments against their agitation.
The agitators also threatened to invade his palace.
One of Igboho’s aides, Koiki, in the video clip threatened that the Oduduwa agitators would soon attack the monarch in his palace and others who do not support their agitation.
But, in his reaction, the Alake said his comment was misconstrued, saying that he was addressing the transport union that came to his palace on a courtesy visit.
Alake added that he would not join issues with the Yoruba youths agitating for ‘disunity’ of the country.
He said, “I told the road transport union that came to my palace, that their union used to be known for causing quarrels at motor parks, that they should maintain peace and look for the progress of this country.
“I, as a traditional ruler, cannot support chaos or anarchy and most of the things that I do are to promote peace, progress, and mostly the happiness of all my people.”
