Amidst ecominums, Maritime Market Players, Stakeholders and High Network Individuals were celebrated at The OMIS Maritime and Offshore 2023 Award of excellence in the sectors held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria on Saturday 23rd September, 2023.

In an interview with Citizen NewsNG, the Chairman of the Occasion, Mrs. Jean Chiazor Anishere (SAN) said the OMIS Maritime and Offshore Industries Award is a platform designed to acknowledge excellence and reawaken innovation, sustainability and operational safety in the Maritime sector of the Nigerian economy.

She charged the Key Players to intensify efforts at rebuilding the sector for a more resilient, sustainable and productive Maritime and Offshore Ecosystem.

According to the Convener and Chief Executive Officer of HSENations, Mr. Femi Da-Silva, the OMIS Maritime & Offshore Award was set up to recognize Outstanding Industry Players cum Stakeholders to reward excellence and Qualitative service delivery in the Maritime and Offshore Industry in Africa. He also stated that The OMIS Award puts spotlight on areas which require attention for development.

“The OMIS Award assembles Professionals and Personnels in the Maritime and Offshore industries to chart a Progressive Developmental Path.”, Da-Silva told Citizen NewsNG.

Continuing, he said: “The OMIS Maritime and Offshore Award is a clamour for a better Maritime Industry in Africa”

He stated further that the Awardees were
shortlisted based on merit by Notable Jugdes after thorough research and selection Process over a period of one year.

Da-Silva urged the Stakeholders in the Maritime and Offshore Industry to collaborate to further harness and revamp the Sector.

Speaking with Citizen NewsNG, The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene N. Ajani said the Ministry would support the Practioners to explore and develop ocean resources for economic development and sustainability.

“We will tackle Piracy on Nigerian Waterways and its borders to secure the Nation’s resources”, She vowed.

She however commended the Organisers of The OMIS Maritime and Offshore Industries Award for their contributory roles and consistency.

On his part, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Marine Transport, Sen. Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni stated that the Nigerian Senate would support the sector to improve productivity and pass laws to further harness the potentials of the Maritime sector.

Dr. Emi Membere-Otaji, Managing Director/CEO, Elshcon Group of Companies was crowned the Iconic Man of the Year Award in recognition of his contributions to the development of the Maritime and Offshore Industries in Nigeria and Africa at large

The Director of Nigerian Shippers Council and National Coordinator, Presidential Port Standing Task Team (PSTT) , Mr. Moses Olayemi Fadipe won the Maritime and Offshore Industries Merit Award 2023.

He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to efficient water transportation system in Nigeria.

Fadipe however tasked Maritime workers on quality service delivery.

“The Maritime and Offshore Industries need Knowledgeable, Passionate and dedicated People to develop the sector. The Stakeholders should be more transparent and accountable in their operations and embrace the Federal Government’s Policies”, Fadipe enjoined.

Fadipe expressed delight on his recognition in the Maritime and Offshore Industries.

Citizen NewsNG checks revealed that the shortlisted Award Categories include Shipping Agent of the Year, Terminal Operator Merit Award, Technology Company of the Year, Offshore Support Merit Award, Training Provider of the Year, Marine Salvage and Wrecks Removal Company of the Year, Vessel Waste Management Company of the Year, Maritime Communications and Navigation Company of the Year and Bunkering Company of the Year.

Thirty (30) Outstanding Stakeholders were presented with Awards of excellence in recognition of their Contributions cum Developmental impacts in the Maritime and Offshore sectors, Citizen NewsNG reports.

Guests were treated to a First-class reception with Live Musical Performances and Creative Talents Displays.
