Dangote Cement Plc has been honored with the esteemed 2023 NatureNews Environmental Sustainability Award.
The award was conferred on the company during the 3rd Anniversary Lecture of NatureNews, held at the prestigious Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja themed “Climate Change and Energy Transition in Nigeria.”
The event underscored the critical importance of environmental stewardship in today’s world.
Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of NatureNews, Mr. Aliyu Akoshile, commended Dangote Cement Plc for its exemplary efforts in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions through innovative technologies and sustainable practices.
Highlighting the company’s commitment to environmental preservation, Akoshile noted Dangote Cement’s initiatives in land reclamation and extensive tree planting endeavors.
He emphasized the urgent need for climate action, citing it as a fundamental imperative for a sustainable future.
Guest speaker and Director General of the Nigeria Country Office African Development Bank Group, Mr. Lamin Barrow, reaffirmed Nigeria’s pledge to transition to net-zero emissions by 2060.
He outlined ambitious targets for renewable energy adoption, underscoring the pivotal role of sustainable energy in driving economic development.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Chief Branding and Communication Officer of the Dangote Group, Mr. Anthony Chiejina, underscored the company’s ongoing efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote environmental conservation.
He highlighted significant achievements in emission reduction and tree planting initiatives, reaffirming Dangote Cement’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
“This accolade adds to Dangote Cement’s growing list of international recognitions, following recent awards in Zambia and Senegal for its CSR and environmental sustainability initiatives.
“In Senegal, the company was lauded by the Conseil National du Patronat (CNP) for its impactful green projects aimed at combating desertification and promoting environmental resilience,” he said.
