Amid global oil price increase, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has urged the Federal Government to fix all the Nation’s refineries to reduce crude importation, steady product supply and competitive pricing system in the Oil and Gas sector.
Speaking at its National Executive Council meeting on Thursday 18 January, 2025 in Lagos, the President of the Association, Mr. Festus Osifo tasked the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and Private Refineries to upscale their productions to meet daily domestic demand and export.
He stated further that functional refineries would guarantee energy security and provide direct and indirect employment for the citizenry.
Osifo also urged President Bola Tinubu’s Government to diversify into exploring other mineral resources to bolster the country’s revenue base.
Continuing, he said: “We will also have the opportunity of getting a lot of foreign exchange when these refineries are working because the value chain is quite enormous”.
“For us in PENGASSAN, we will continually push until all the refineries are working,” he concluded.
