Following the controversial action by singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, who has now been declared wanted, the embattled musician has claimed that he is a mad man currently receiving treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
It is important to note that the Zazoo crooner was reportedly involved in a confrontation with three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office: Onabanjo Abidemi, Raymond Lateef, and Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi.
The officials were conducting an enforcement exercise in the Oke-Osa area of Tigbo Ilu Ota, Ogun State.
According to the town planners, they had encountered an elderly man at Odogwu Bar in the area, later identified as Portable’s father.
They had asked to see Portable, but he was reportedly not present at the time. Shortly afterward, Portable arrived, armed with a firearm and other weapons, leading a gang of nine thugs in an attack on the unarmed officials.
In response to the incident, Portable took to Instagram in a series of posts on Tuesday, where he appealed to Nigerians and the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, claiming he had been set up.
He also alleged that he was targeted for wearing a vest with the face of Senator Adeola Solomon, popularly known as Yayi.
The singer further explained that he is mentally unstable and undergoes treatment at Aro Hospital, showing a card that confirms his status as a patient there.
He said, “I fear the government. I am a liability to the federal government. I am a madman and take medications regularly. You can verify this with Aro Hospital. I have a card that confirms I am under their care.”
He continued, “I’m from Abeokuta, and they are taking care of me there. I am not a thief, and I help people around me without asking about their background.”
In the police’s account, they reported that the enforcement officers suffered various injuries from the attack but managed to escape.
They subsequently reported the incident to the Ota Area Command, which escalated the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further action.
The police also stated that nine accomplices were arrested, but Portable fled the scene and has since gone into hiding.
