Nigerian rapper and activist Eedris Abdulkareem has responded to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) ban of his latest song, “Tell Your Papa” stating explicitly that it’s a plan to silence the truth.
Abdulkareem renowned for his courage and outspokenness in criticizing the government’s ills against its citizens, directed the song at President Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, after his viral “They keep coming for your father” speech.
However, the song which urged Seyi to tell his father, Bola Tinubu of the insecurity and socio-economic woes plaguing Nigerians, was banned from airplay by the regulatory body on April 9, citing Section 3.1.8 of the Nigerian Broadcasting Code, claiming its lyrics are inappropriate and objectionable.
In response, Abdulkareem took to his Instagram to condemn NBC’s ban on his song, labeling it as a blatant attempt to silence truth and stifle constructive criticism. He described the Tinubu-led administration as “grossly maleficent” and stated that he would not keep silent to the issues crippling the nation.
He wrote,
NBC JUST BANNED MY NEW SINGLE ‘TELL YOUR PAPA’… It’s obvious that in Nigeria, truth and constructive criticism is always deemed a big crime by the government,”
“This present government led by President Bola Tinubu is now going on record as one of the most insensitive, vindictive and grossly maleficent administration ever to preside over the affairs of Nigeria,”
“They are instructing broadcast houses to shield the government by hiding the candle under the table… Any wonder why Nigeria hasn’t made impactful strides all these years? The conscience is an open wound, only the truth can heal it. Aluta Continua!”
