Celebrity chef Hilda Baci is turning up the heat with an audacious attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
The culinary star, who captivated the globe with her 2023 cook-a-thon, kicked off her latest record-breaking bid at Lagos Eko Hotel, aiming to cook 250 bags of Nigeria’s beloved rice dish to feed 10,000 people.
The event drew an electric crowd of fans and supporters, as thousands flocked to witness history in the making. Originally slated for Muri Okunola Park, the venue was shifted to the more spacious Eko Hotel due to overwhelming public interest, over 20,000 eager attendees registered in advance.
As preparations unfold, a viral video showcases the staggering quantities of ingredients, sacks of peppers, tomatoes, and onions, kegs of vegetable oil, and heaps of seasoning cubes and tomato purée.
With such massive proportions, her team of skilled hands are ready to tackle tasks like unwrapping seasoning cubes, sorting and cleaning produce, and dicing onions.”
Before the cooking began, a touching moment between Hilda and her mother captivated the audience. The pair knelt in prayer, asking for divine strength and endurance. The emotional scene moved many spectators to tears, with fans hailing her mother as a quiet force behind Hilda’s continued success.
Known for her spirited personality and hands-on work ethic, Hilda brought the same energy to this challenge.
“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself. In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making,” she shared.
