There is growing outrage in Lagos following the reported assault and arrest of Nollywood actress Sarah Martins by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, popularly known as KAI, while she was cooking and distributing free food to the needy along Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1.
The actress, who had been running a small charity outreach to feed hungry residents, was attacked by KAI officials who accused her of violating environmental and street trading laws.
According to multiple sources, the officials not only arrested Sarah Martins but also seized her cooking equipment and cleared the entire area. Shockingly, residents alleged that she was assaulted during the arrest and that hot oil was poured on her in the process.
“She was only trying to help people. Everything she did was free she cooks, serves food, and talks to those who are struggling to feed. The government should be encouraging her, not punishing her,” one resident lamented.
Witnesses said the actress had been carrying out the charitable act regularly as part of her personal effort to support those affected by the economic hardship and rising food prices in Lagos.
